The Town of Penfield announces the launch of “Bri-Pen Senior Rides” on Monday, May 1.  This new community volunteer transportation service is for seniors age 65 and older who require transportation to medical appointments and religious services within Monroe County. Clients must be ambulatory (the service cannot accommodate wheelchairs, canes and walkers are fine) and are allowed one round-trip, or two one-way trips, per week.

Seniors who live or pay taxes within Brighton or Penfield are eligible to receive this free service. Rides are available weekdays 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (except holidays) for medical appointments and weekends for religious services. For planning purposes, all appointments must be made five business days in advance. Rides are dependent on driver availability, and the service may not be used for medical appointments that require any type of sedation.

Volunteer drivers are screened and trained by Lifespan’s Give a Lift program and they receive supplemental insurance for their services.

"After months of assessing the need for a senior ride service in Penfield and discussions with our good neighbors in Brighton, we moved ahead with plans to work together to provide this important service for our residents," said Supervisor Tony LaFountain. "Just one ride to one appointment can help a resident stay healthy and engaged. Access to transportation makes it more possible for seniors to 'age in place' in their very own homes."

Please call 585.340.8674 for more information, to schedule a ride, volunteer, or to make a donation.
